Grace Bell Commits to Roosevelt University
Grace Bell has officially committed to join the women’s basketball program at Roosevelt University. The six-foot wing, renowned for her versatility on both offense and defense, will bring her skills to the only NCAA Division II team in Chicago.
Coach Deon Thomas, head coach at Roosevelt and a good friend of AUSA Hoops, keenly observed Grace during the AUSA tour at the Run for the Roses event in the United States. This live performance solidified her appeal to the coach. "Seeing Grace compete in person at Run for the Roses really solidified things for us. Her versatility immediately stood out, but as we continued to build a relationship with Grace and her family, we became even more confident that she was the right fit for our program. She’s a high-character young woman who represents the type of student-athlete we want at Roosevelt, and we’re excited about everything she’ll bring to our program," said Coach Thomas.
Roosevelt University's Women's Basketball
The Roosevelt University women’s basketball program competes in the NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Under the leadership of Deon Thomas, now entering his fourth season, the team has developed six all-conference performers and had notable individual achievements, such as Marie Outlay earning both CCAC Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors.
In past seasons, the team has made consistent appearances in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals and the CCAC Tournament quarterfinals, despite variable win-loss records. The program is committed to not only developing basketball skills but also academic excellence, which is evident in the multiple student-athletes who have achieved Academic All-District recognition.
Grace’s commitment to Roosevelt University is a proud moment for the entire Australian basketball community. Her journey has been shaped by countless influences, including her family, junior clubs, and numerous coaches. AUSA Hoops is honored to have played a small part in bridging her path to college basketball and looks forward to watching her continue to excel at the collegiate level.
