At 6 feet tall, Thomas-Lea made his mark with the Knox Raiders in Melbourne, showing impressive skills while on tour in May. His play in Kansas City and Tulsa, participating in the NXT Pro and Pro 16, highlighted his ability as a defensive-minded floor general willing to sacrifice on both ends. His poise in traffic, penetrating the defense, and precise passing to open shooters and cutters were noted as standout traits.

The Mt Aloysius men's basketball program competes in the NCAA Division III within the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). As of April 2026, Pat Martinelli took over as head coach, succeeding Marcus Thomas. The team had a challenging season in 2024–25, ending with a 7-18 overall record and placing seventh in the conference.
Although the program has yet to make an appearance in an AMCC tournament final and continues to seek its first conference title, the addition of players like Thomas-Lea Smith could be pivotal in inspiring future successes on the court.
